Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about our non-emergency stretcher transportation services.
Will my insurance company pay for my stretcher transport?
In some cases, insurance companies will pay for all or part of your transport. However, Empire State Medi-Cab cannot bill the insurance company directly. Private pay customers must first pay out of pocket and then work with their insurance company toward reimbursement. We will gladly provide a paid invoice or other proof of transport to help you get reimbursed. The best approach is to call your insurance company, provide the details of the trip and why stretcher transport was needed, and let them make the final determination.
Can an aide or family member ride with the customer?
Absolutely. We encourage — but do not require — customers to travel with a trusted aide or family member for safety and comfort.
Can a customer be transported with oxygen?
Yes, as long as an Empire State Medi-Cab employee does not have to administer the oxygen and the oxygen tank is properly secured for transport.
My home has stairs — can you still transport me?
No problem. As long as we know the weight of the customer and how many stairs or steps we will be faced with before we arrive, we can handle stairs and steps. These types of trips may require a two-person crew and additional costs, but they are well within our capabilities.
Do you provide wheelchair transportation?
Empire State Medi-Cab specializes in non-emergency stretcher transportation. We do not provide standalone wheelchair or ambulatory transport services. If you need stretcher service, please call our office to discuss your specific needs.
What equipment does your company provide?
Our vehicles are equipped with stretchers and the safety equipment needed for secure transport, including updated tie-down straps and seat belts. Our crews ensure all equipment is functional and ready before every trip.
Are there any passengers you cannot transport?
We transport non-emergency patients who require stretcher service. Customers who need active medical assistance during the ride or who require emergency ambulance service should contact 911 or their local ambulance provider — that level of care is outside the scope of our non-emergency stretcher transport services.
How far in advance should I schedule?
We recommend scheduling at least two days in advance whenever possible. For same-day requests, please call our office directly at (631) 777-7333 rather than emailing.
